Many communities have loosened their outdoor eating restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic to help accommodate social distancing.

But things are going so well, City Manager Edward Augustus Jr. told the Worcester Telegram and Gazette that the city is thinking of providing an option for restaurants to offer alfresco options.

In the fall, Augustus plans to file new zoning regulations to accommodate permanent outdoor dining.

Worcester cleared the way for temporary outdoor dining in June as the state began to lift the COVID-19-inspired economic lockdown. Nearly 100 Worcester restaurants now offer outdoor dining.
